What is Ashiatsu Massage?

Ashiatsu, (ashi means foot and atsu means pressure), is an ancient form of bodywork brought to us by Buddhist monks. It is an adaptation of an ancient form of barefoot massage using deep compression effleurage gliding over the body. Marianne practices a western style of barefoot massage that is deeply luxurious.  She is supported by overhead bars so that she can give her client little to full pressure in a balanced and flowing manner.  Gravitational force is combined with centrifugal and centripetal movements to bring about a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage. Correct application provides deep relaxation and stimulates the lymphatic system of the body. Marianne uses lotions and effleurage motions to achieve a modified

myofascial  release that results in structural change in chronic soft tissue damage.

"..I had been receiving deep tissue massage regularly for 2 or three years, I always felt good afterwards and a little sore.  However the right side of my back, from hip to shoulder, always knotted up on me.  During my first Ashiatsu session those muscles gave in, it was as if they knew it was useless to hold on, and after two more sessions one week apart I no longer have that chronic back issue.  And I never really felt sore during or after the sessions.  It was deeper than I ever imagined, just not painful!"  MF, Silverthorne
