Advanced Rehab Solutions

Edo Zylstra PT, MS, IMSp

Edo received his Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Regis University in 2001 and his Bachelors of Science at Grand Valley State University in Michigan focusing on Health Science. Since then has focused his clinical practice on managing chronic musculoskeletal pain and whiplash.

Edo incorporates manual techniques from various manual medicine disciplines. He specialized in the Travell and Gunn dry needling technique and continues to advance his education in this type of treatment. He has developed and teaches Level I and Level II courses to teach manually trained medical practitioners to incorporate dry needling into their treatment of patients in their clinical practice.

He has a special interest in orthopedics, spine and manipulative manual therapy and has extensive training in the treatment of head aches, neck injuries, sports injuries and acute and chronic pain. Further, he has experience as a competitive tennis player, swimmer and cross-country runner.

Edo has recently started an educational company by the name of GEMt-Global Education of Manual Therapists (US branch). This company currently offers training for manual therapists in the treatment of Trigger Point Dry Needling. For more information go to www.GEMtinfo.com

Edo met with the Department of Regulatory Agency's (DORA) advisory board and the Colorado Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) to present the validity and effectiveness of intramuscular stimulation (IMS) and Trigger Point Dry Needling, similar types of treatment for pain and dysfunction. After listening to the presentation and asking numerous questions, the boards decided that IMS/ Trigger Point Dry Needling is indeed within the physical therapist's scope of practice. This makes Colorado the eighth state to accept dry needling as a form of therapy.

When this was passed in the Colorado Legislation there were only 4 PT’s practicing TDN and now, thanks to GEMt there are closer to 100 physical therapists in the State of Colorado trained in the TDN treatment technique.

Currently, Edo has opened an office in Dillon and in Edwards where he works with Tina Anderson PT, MS, a seasoned PT utilizing similar philosophy and treatment techniques.
