Plantar fasciitis is pain at the bottom of the foot where the plantar fascia is located. This pain usually increases with walking and standing for long periods of time.

Plantar Fasciitis Treatments

  • Extremity Manipulation

Your foot has 26 bones and 33 joints housed within it. Each one of these joints need to be able to move properly in order to function properly. Manipulation can increase range of motion, as well as modulate pain in a joint. This allows the foot to move properly and will make other treatments more effective.

  • Foot Rehab

Along with the 25 bones and 33 joints, our feet also have four layers of muscles. Some of these muscles are contained entirely within the foot, and some of them begin in the lower leg and calf, but all of them are important for proper foot function. Returning the foot to normal function requires properly rehabilitating all of the muscles and tendons housed within it.

  • Orthotic Therapy

Plantar Fasciitis Treatment is more complicated than slapping an insert in your shoe, but often times custom orthotics can significantly assist in reducing pain and improving some of the mechanics of the foot. Our process of using a dynamic as well as static mold of your foot is the best way to ensure that you get the right orthotic for your foot.

Shockwave Therapy has been shown to benefit people with Plantar fasciopathy

  • There are many ways in which ESWT benefits our tissues:

    • Increased Microcirculation

    • Vasodilation due to release of nitric oxide

    • Cell matrix stimulation (mechano-transduction)

    • Release of Substance P

    • Analgesic effects (pain-gating)

    • Increased cell wall permeability (cell metabolism)

    • Stimulation of growth factors (neovascularization)

    • Stimulation of stem cells (cell proliferation)

  • “Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is a safe and effective treatment that yields favorable results in improvement of pain and function for plantar fasciitis” (Biceret al.,2018) Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association 108 (2): 100–105.

  • Acute Plantar pain (less than 3 months) we recommend:

    • Consultation regarding Efficient and Effective rehabilitation

    • Frequency of 1x per week for 4 weeks (4 ESWT treatments)

    • Consultation regarding strength training and preventative measures

Chronic Plantar Fasciitis (more than 3 months) we recommend:

    • Consultation regarding graded exposure and rehabilitation

    • More aggressive treatment of 2x per week for 4 weeks (8 ESWT treatments in 4 weeks)

    • Consultation regarding continues strength training and returning to sport or activity

Plantar fasciitis treatment is more complicated than sticking an insert in your shoe. Our functional assessments and therapies provide a winning combination to get you out of pain and back to the activities you love.
